Lakhdar Boukerrou, Ph.D.
President

Dr. Boukerrou serves as the CEC’s Director of International Programs and Global Initiative and is an Affiliate Faculty in the African and African Diaspora Studies at the Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs. Prior to joining FIU, Dr. Boukerrou was at Florida Atlantic University where he served as a Manager/Coordinator Research Programs at the Center for Environmental Studies, Research Professor in the Department of Geosciences, and Adjunct Professor in the College of Business. Dr. Boukerrou is Fulbright Specialist and has been a recipient of Fulbright funding.

Dr. Boukerrou has broad experience, both in the US and abroad, in international development, project management, training programs design, monitoring, and evaluation. He has a wide-ranging experience managing projects in several countries including Egypt, Turkey, Algeria, Morocco, Rwanda, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Niger, Cote d’Ivoire, South Africa, Botswana, and the United States. More recently he served as the Regional Director/Chief of Party the USAID WA-WASH Program in West Africa. Dr. Boukerrou also served as a resource person and subject matter expert for US-AFRICOM funded symposia in Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Malawi, Sierra Leone, and Uganda.

He used his extensive experience in training to develop numerous training programs funded by organizations such as UNEP, IFAD, USAID, and USDA for participants from Asia, Central and South America, Africa, and Eastern Europe. Dr. Boukerrou provided consulting services to the World Bank, The Global Mechanism of the United Nations, the Islamic Development Bank, the UN Global Environment Facility, academic institutions, and several Fortune 500 companies and small businesses in the US and abroad. Over the years, Dr. Boukerrou served on over 30 boards of civic and professional organizations including Advisory Boards for academic institutions.

Dr. Boukerrou earned his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota.
