This interactive webinar series is designed to help young scientists develop essential research skills, ranging from hypothesis generation and data interpretation to ethical decision-making and science communication through engaging, hands-on activities.
Program description
An interactive Zoom-based series to develop critical thinking, communication, and innovation skills in science for Master, PhD, and early-career scientists, designed to boost your creativity, critical thinking, communication, and collaborative problem-solving , the real skills that make a great scientist in today’s world.
This is hands-on, fast-paced, and built around fun challenges and real-world scenarios, all conducted in a supportive, energizing Zoom format with peers from across disciplines.
Session 1: The hypothesis hackathon, Reverse engineer the experiment, data detective, Bad figure contest.
Session 2: The 3-minute idea journal, Design a research startup, Science to stranger, Ethics roleplay: the scientist’s dilemma.
Learning objectives
– Formulate testable hypotheses and design basic experimental strategies under time constraints.
Interpret complex data and improve visual communication using best practices in graphing and data storytelling.
– Communicate scientific concepts clearly and effectively to diverse audiences, including non-specialists.
– Identify and address common ethical dilemmas in research environments through scenario-based discussions.
– Apply creativity and innovation to scientific problem-solving and idea generation.
Collaborate effectively in small teams to brainstorm, pitch, and refine scientific ideas.
– Reflect on their role as future scientists and develop a mindset of curiosity, responsibility, and integrity.
