Samir Aouadi, Ph.D.
Dr. Aouadi is an Associate Professor in the department of materials science and engineering at the University of North Texas and is the Associate Chair for graduate studies. He received a Ph.D. in Applied Physics from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, B.C., Canada. His research expertise is in surface science and engineering for space, aerospace, energy, defense, and biomedical applications. He has pioneered research on high-temperature tribological coatings with a focus on ternary oxides, adaptive coatings, and self-healing ceramics. He has published 105 papers in refereed journals and has received over $3.5 M in funding from the Department of Defense, the National Science Foundation, the National Institute of Health, and industry.
Dr. Aouadi has served as an editor for Surface and Coatings Technology for the last 8 years and is on the advisory board of the European Materials Research Society (2016-Pres.) and the International Symposium on Ceramics CIMTEC (2010-Pres.). He has been very active with the International Conference of Metallurgical Coatings and Thin Films (ICMCTF) for 21 years: Chair of the Biomaterials (2003-2007) and tribology (2011-2013) sessions; Symposium E chair (2013-2016); Guest editor (2011-2013) and then Lead editor (2013-2018) of the special issue of the ICMCTF; Publications Chair of the special issue of the ICMCTF (2018-Pres.). In addition, he was elected Program Co-Chair of the ICMCTF 2021 meeting, Program Chair of the ICMCTF 2022 meeting, and General Chair of the ICMCTF 2023 meeting.
